Achieving online dialogic learning using breakout rooms

The use of breakout rooms is an increasingly used tool in online teaching. This study uses Laurillard’s (2013) Conversational Framework to evaluate the effectiveness achieving learning through peer-to-peer dialogue large-scale Data were collected surveys, comprising Likert ratings and open questions, undergraduate students (n = 115) tutors 9) at Aberdeen Business School (Robert Gordon University) reflecting on Year 1 studies 2020–2021 academic year. Key findings indicate that can be successful effective dialogue. However, this highly dependent participation by students, which was variable. In order facilitate rooms, need ensure they set a clear task, with evidence suggesting perception gap between how effectively done, regularly visit encourage provide support.
